Unisa Multilingual Terminology Database

The Unisa Multilingual Terminology Database is an institutional initiative led by the Directorate Language Services (DLS) to develop, manage, standardise and disseminate multilingual terminology that supports teaching and learning, research, administration and institutional communication at Unisa.

The project aims to establish a centralised, digital terminology resource containing specialised terms and their equivalents in South Africa’s official languages. The database will promote consistent terminology usage, linguistic accessibility, multilingual communication and the implementation of Unisa’s Multilingual Language Policy.

The project will involve the Directorate Language Services, subject-matter experts, language practitioners, terminology specialists, academic departments, colleges and relevant institutional stakeholders. The intended users include students, academics, researchers, translators, interpreters, editors, content developers and administrative staff.

The project will include terminology collection, verification, translation, standardisation, quality assurance, database development and ongoing maintenance. The resource will support the development and dissemination of reliable multilingual terminology across the institution.
